Baby Dedication
“I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD.” 1 Samuel 1:27-28
At Riverside we do not baptize our infants, because we believe baptism is a decision a person makes after they repent of their sins and place their faith in Jesus (see Water Baptism). But, in accordance with biblical tradition, we do dedicate our children to the Lord. Baby Dedication is a ceremony in which believing parents, and sometimes entire families, make a commitment before the Lord to submit our children to God’s will and to raise our children according to God’s Word and God’s ways. Christian parents who dedicate their child are making a promise to the Lord to do everything within their power to raise their child in a godly way, prayerfully until he or she can make a decision on his or her own to follow God.
