Serving

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace” – 1 Peter 4:10

A passion to serve others is an important sign of a healthy believer and a healthy church. Jesus said true greatness in the Kingdom of God is lived out by becoming a greater servant. We’re not to jockey for power, prestige, or positions of greater authority. Rather, we’re to humble ourselves and give our lives to building others up.  Jesus not only taught this, he modeled it. Through his incarnation and death, he humbled himself for our salvation. It was Jesus, the Lord and Master of all, who even got down on his knees and washed his disciples’ dirty feet.  Our Master now calls us, his followers, to this same life of radical service. And he’s gifted us, by the Holy Spirit, to that very end. To serve one another and build up the church, all for the glory of God!

Ministry Teams
The way we promote and partner in service at Riverside is through what we call “Ministry Teams.”  These teams are formed as groups of members join together and combine our individual passions, experiences, and gifts. Together we partner to strengthen and build-up the larger body in very specific ways. For example, we have a Tech Team, that runs our sound, lights, and video equipment. We have a Nursery Team that cares for our little ones. We have a Hospitality Team that takes point for food and meals at church-wide events and class. We have evangelism teams that take the Gospel beyond the walls of our building into the surrounding community.

Find a Team
To find a team you might be interested in joining, simply go the the “Find a Group” link and look around.  Or login to Church Community Builder, our online church directory, and do a group-search.  From CCB you can even request to join a group, which notifies the group’s leader of your interest.  Most of our teams require that you first join Riverside as a member. So, if you’ve yet to do so, please sign up for our next new members’ class, Starting Point.  Those who are enrolled in our next Starting Point class, and taking intentional steps towards membership, can normally begin serving immediately.

Background Checks
Lastly, a number of our teams, especially Childrens’ Ministry, requires a background check.  If you’re asked to get a background check done, you can easily initiate the process by filling out this online form.  All the information collected on the form is submitted directly to “ProtectMyMinistry.com” so it is both confidential and completely secure.

True greatness comes through serving. We hope you’ll join us as we partner together in building up the church through a life of radical service!
