New Believers

How do i become a believer?

Becoming a Christian involves 3 responses to God’s truth and love.

1. Repent
a. Turn from trusting in Yourself to God.

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the
LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”
(ISAIAH 12:2 ESV)

b. Turn from the Darkness to the light.

“…open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from
the power of Satan to God…:
(ACTS 26:18 ESV)

2. Believe
a. Jesus is the Christ, God’s promised King.

“Simon Peter replied, ‘You are the Christ…’”
(MATTHEW 16:16A ESV)

b. Jesus is the Son of God, fully God and man.
“Simon Peter replied, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’”
(MATTHEW 16:16 ESV)

c. Jesus Died on the cross for your sins.

“God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
(ROMANS 5:8 ESV)

d. Jesus Rose Again defeating death, and is Alive today.

“[Christ] was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures…
he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.”
(1 CORINTHIANS 15:4-5)

3. Receive
a. Call Out to the Lord Jesus to save you.

“For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”
(ROMANS 10:13 ESV)

b. Receive Christ and His Holy Spirit into your life.

“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the
right to become children of God…”
(JOHN 1:12 ESV)

You Can Call Out to the Lord Jesus through Prayer.
“Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I believe
you are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Today I turn from
myself and my sin to trust in you. I receive you as my Lord and
Savior. Come into my life, by your Holy Spirit, and make me new.
Thank you for your forgiveness and love. Thank you for the gift of
eternal life. Amen.”

WHAT IS A RELATIONSHIP
WITH GOD?

1. Our relationship with God is based on Grace.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your
own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one
may boast.”
(EPHESIANS 2:8-9)

2. We obey Jesus out of Love, not out of Guilt.

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
(JOHN 14:15 ESV)

3. We Pray and read God’s Word to commune with Him.

“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my
flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”
(PSALM 63:1 ESV)

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TEACH
ABOUT BAPTISM?

We practice baptism by immersion in water, which the way Jesus was
baptized and the way the Bible describes. Baptism is the way we
declare that Christ has saved us; it is the first thing Jesus commands
us to do when we follow him.

“In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by
John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately
he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him
like a dove.” (MARK 1:9-10 ESV)

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…”
(MATTHEW 28:19 ESV)

By being water baptized, you are:

1. Following the Example set by Christ.

2. Demonstrating that you Believe Jesus has saved you.

3. Declaring your commitment to Follow Christ as Lord.

Baptism is a vivid picture of our new identity:

Baptism symbolizes that we United with Christ.

“Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ
Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him
by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the
dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
(ROMANS 6:3-4 ESV)
